There's something about caffeine

I was up last night til the wee hours of the morning feeling like an idiot as I had 7 cups of tea forgetting that tea has caffeine. Duh. So this is me in agony trying really really really hard to sleep and not being able to. Have you had that happen to you? It's really torturous trying to do all you can to fall asleep which means shutting my eyes, listening to an entire collection of piano spa music, tossing, turning and at one point recorded my hubby's snores on my handphone so that I might use it as a ringtone.

My first experience with caffeine overdose was when I was in my teens trying to stay awake for the mid year exams and boy did I ever! It not only ward off my drowsiness, it gave me the superpowers to bounce off walls and ceiling, and together with my abnormally high adrenaline rush, I felt that I could really leap off a really high building unscathed. Not a good combination. It was enough to put me off coffee for a really long time. Sometimes like yesterday though, I forget his good friend, Tea.

The effects have since worn off. I don't think I'll have any problems sleeping tonight.

Cherry blossom

It's been a crazy past 2 weeks at work and as much as I am passionate about what I do, I wish I had an extra 12 hours a day just to work with my beads! Gorgeous pale pink faceted chalcedony wire wrapped with my signature single freshwater pearl and a sterling silver pressed flower that reminds me of cherry blossoms in Spring. All components in sterling silver.

Monitu

I found these gorgeous turquoise saucers and just had to make another bracelet. I love the natural brown streaks that go with them and used a toggle for easy wear. All components are in sterling silver and it's 6 3/4 inches in length. If you're a jeans and white-T kinda gal, this would go perfectly. A pair of earrings to go with it and they remind me of pancakes with maple syrup. They can be found on etsy.

Empty toilet rolls stacked behind a panel of frosty glass outside the toilets. Now you know what to do with your empty toilet rolls. Talk about recycled artwork. Just brilliant.

What's for breakfast

The last few days were quite nice. We spent the time walking the streets of Bangkok and combing through the malls looking for good bargains. The heat was something else and I got a tan just walking around. We had our share of sticky rice with mango and tom yum soup and foot massages. It wasn't our first trip so I decided to skip the taking-many-pictures-of-your-holiday thing. But I did take some pictures of what people had for breakfast or rather what their platters looked like after breakfast. I was sitting across my husband and noticing how different our plates looked after breakfast. He's a messy eater, pretty much like Homer Simpson, and I'm kinda like Marge I guess. Quite an accurate reflection of our personalities I must say. Here are some pictures of people's 'after breakfast'. I must thank a very patient waitress and the guest who who looked alarmed each time I got up to take a picture of someone else's table but decided not to say anything. I made sure I didn't take a picture of hers.

Just give me my scramble eggs and toast with jam. And two glasses of orange juice. It's really too early for spicy noodles. How can they have spicy noodles in the morning??

Just an English breakfast please. Some corn flakes and milk and then I've got to run. What's the fork for?

Just toast for me please. Hmmm...let's try as little of the jam...it's ok. The butter? Nah, too salty. I'll try breakfast somewhere else tomorrow.

If my wife thinks that I'm going to let her take a picture of my mess, she's kidding! Excuse me, could you clear my mess quickly?

Ok, I think 4 small pancakes with maple syrup and toast and a little bowl of fish porridge is all I need. Now for my cup of tea and off to take more pictures.

Vacation

The best part of a vacation? Right this minute. The moment where I think about the possibilities of what to do tomorrow. The certainty that I can't get any work done tonight because I'm going to be on a plane tomorrow. The thought of having breakfast with my husband on a weekday morning tomorrow. The thought of doing absolutely nothing. Or rather the thought of having that option to do absolutely nothing. And best of all not feeling an ounce of guilt about it. The truth is out. My life's ambition is to be a bum.

Indie

Long chalcedony briolettes topped with tourmalines and wrapped in sterling silver. The briolettes has some banding much like the agate stones which is not showing up in the picture here. The banding is part of the natural formation of the stones and it's lovely especially if you're someone who doesn't go for perfect symmetry all the time.

Love is a spoonful of porridge

My husband and I were thrilled when we stumbled upon the infamours Porridge King in Chinatown. If you know Porridge King, you would also know of the owner Alvin Koh. Standing at 1.5m, he is the tallest man in history to win the asia body building championship in the 1990s. With cooking and bodybuilding, it is not surprising that he has become somewhat of an icon chef. I just learnt that his restaurants can be found in Sydney and SanFrancisco and other parts of the world. Go Alvin!!

Porridge King has its roots here in Katong along East Coast road and it brings back fond memories for me as it was one of our dating spots, my husband and I. When the restaurant closed in the East and when I moved to the North, I lost sight of the quaint little restaurant. Until now. You can find the menu here and they're all so very good but my favourite is the porridge with salted fish with lots of pepper. It's a very simple meal but I love it!! I think it has to do with me growing up and my mom cooking porridge when I was down with the flu (which was quite often) and on rainy weekends when everyone was home. So life can't get better with the love of my life sitting with me and a bowl of porridge. You know the scene in Ratatouille where the grouchy food critic takes a spoonful of Remy's dish and then you see his face transform into blissful contentment? I so get that.
